Yellow Pages Overall Winner of European Best Practice Benchmarking Awards 2000 - 24 October 2000

In recognition of its ‘Best in Class’ approach to Benchmarking, Yellow Pages was announced overall winner of the European Best Practice Benchmarking Awards in Paris on 10th October, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Shell and Johnson and Johnson.

Chair of the judging panel and Chair in Best Practice Management at the University of Bradford, Mohamed Zairi, who presented the award, said, "Yellow Pages clearly demonstrates that benchmarking is driven by top management and therefore generates commitment at all levels."

Yellow Pages’ submission was based on its print management benchmarking project, which looked at the most effective ways in which to purchase and manage print throughout the business, and has enabled the company to reap savings of up to 31%. Following the success of the project, Yellow Pages has now set up a permanent print buying department.

Accepting the Award on behalf of Yellow Pages, Tony Old, Senior Corporate Design Manager said, "Winning this award is testimony to Yellow Pages commitment to continually refining and improving the ways we work. This award is a real boost to the team."

This award is hot on the heels of another accolade for Yellow Pages. Its Internet destination site, Yell.com was announced as winner of Best Business to Consumer Internet Directory at the European Association of Directory Publishers (EADP) Awards in Venice last month.

Yellow Pages last year won the European Quality Award, the coveted pan-European Business Excellence Award created and managed by the European Foundation for Quality Management and endorsed by the European Commission and the European Organisation for Quality.
