One-woman ironing and laundry business takes Yellow Pages' Best Business Name 2004 title - 11 October 2004
Crease Lightning, a one-woman ironing and laundry business from Bristol is today recognised as Britain’s Best Business Name, in the second Yellow Pages Best Business Names competition.Grease fan and business owner Judy White steamed through the UK-wide competition to scoop the national title and a £5,000 cash prize. Delighted by her victory, Judy said: “I came up with the name because I am a massive Grease fan – I even wear my hair like Olivia Newton-John does in the movie. Having the UK’s Best Business Name really is something to treasure and I’d like to thank Yellow Pages for organising the competition.”
Regional heats produced a shortlist of thirteen finalists including gems such as Amp & Decks, a corporate entertainment company from Newcastle, Melon Cauli, a greengrocer from Birmingham and Flash Gordon, a photographer from Berkshire.
An expert judging panel comprising representatives from the spheres of comedy, psychology and business had the difficult task of choosing the regional and national winners, after receiving hundreds of high-quality entries.
The panel comprised retail psychologist Dr Tim Denison; Open University linguist Dr Frank Monaghan; Laurence Miller, managing director of Jongleurs Comedy Clubs and Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, publisher of Yellow Pages directories.
Richard Duggleby said: “Yellow Pages directories are full of businesses with ingenious names and we simply wanted to recognise and reward the best. Crease Lightning caught the judges’ attention with its witty tribute to a well-loved film.”
